Pride month is held in the U.S. each June in remembrance of the Stonewall Riots in 1969. We celebrate Pride in recognition of the strides LGBTQ+ individuals have made throughout history and continue to support our community and generations to come. This month members from LGBTQ+@Doximity, an Employee Resource Group (ERG) dedicated to LGBTQ+ Doxers and allies, are coming together to answer questions on topics surrounding Pride!
What would you tell your younger self about finding community in the workplace?

Alexandra Li, Product Manager
As an adult, you'll find yourself at a variety of different companies and work environments. Listen to the quiet voice at the back of your mind that tells you whether you feel completely comfortable or not. The type of environment where you feel you can be proudly yourself exists, but you'll have to actively pursue it to get there. Never be ashamed of your minority identities (asian american, bisexual, female), they give you unique perspective and are worth fighting for. It's worth finding a place where you don't have to hide them.

Kyriaki Tsaganis, Senior Medical Content Strategist
Honestly, she didn't need advice on being herself. That came naturally, even in workplaces that hadn't earned it. So instead, I'd tell her that being able to be yourself somewhere is the floor, not the ceiling. That the people around you can be wonderful and it can still not be enough, because the place itself has to be worthy of you too.

Tyler Schrader, Recruiter
I grew up in the South... as a very obviously gay kid. As you can imagine, it wasn't an easy road but I learned to blend in to my surroundings and become a wallflower. After a childhood spent policing everything from how I sounded to how I dressed, I entered the workforce terrified that my identity would isolate me and stall my career growth. I was multiple years into my career until I had a leader that helped me realize trying to conform meant losing the exact edge that made me valuable. Once I stopped chasing universal approval and focused on building genuine, unfiltered connections, I finally found both my footing and my community. I would tell that younger version of myself to lean boldly into who they are, because the right people will always celebrate what makes you different. I don't want a seat at a table I'm not welcomed to.
We're always hiring and we'd love to hear from you! See our open positions across all departments, including our Engineering Department.
